Senior Lecturer in Research Methods

Jana is an award-winning academic-entrepreneur. Her start-up business www.family-bakery.cz has been winning awards for innovation and excellence and been featured in press and practitioner magazines. Meanwhile, Jana’s leadership skills and academic experience have been recognised by students, universities and the UK Higher Education Academy, of which she is a Senior Fellow.

Experienced in applied business research, Jana is currently working on projects which contribute to both knowledge and practice. Her paper on Net Promoter and Sales Growth was recognised by the British Academy of Management as the Best Paper in Marketing and Retail at their 2018 international conference.

Teaching & research interests

As a quantitative researcher Jana uses her expertise to build a bridge between academia and industry and has had the opportunity to actively engage in practice-based research. Her passion to solve real business problems using rigorous research methods drives her research agenda and publication outputs. Jana is currently involved in research projects focusing on the relationship between customer experience and sales growth, returns and risk associated with investment in human capital, problem gambling in professional football and volunteering in grassroots football. 

She is passionate about experimenting with innovative approaches to facilitating learning and is known for not being afraid of using technology to enhance student learning. She is an advocate and actively promotes practice and problem-based learning approaches to teaching at all levels to enable students to work on real-life project briefs.

She has been featured in and interviewed by a number of practitioner magazines, such as Business Leaders and Entrepreneur CZ, and has received a number of awards as an entrepreneur. This includes being named as one of the top 20 entrepreneurial women in the Czech Republic in 2018.
