Shortly after the GIS New York Summit, we travelled south to the palm trees and beaches of Florida, for our annual Miami Summit. Over the course of two weeks, a flurry of guest speaker sessions, live sports matches and stadium tours provided students and alumni with an exclusive insight into the historic, internationally-renowned Miami sports scene.

Based at GIS’ very own US campus at Inter Miami CF’s DRV PNK Stadium, the Summit enabled students to expand their network globally and engage with key figures in the industry, such as Michael Shaw, Senior Vice President at Miami Marlins, and Derick Anderson, Director of Sports Psychology at Florida Panthers.

Buffalo Bills’ Jordan Poyer also imparted words of wisdom, sharing what it’s really like to be a professional athlete and how the success and fame shapes you as a character, enabling students to hear a different perspective on working in the sports industry.

On top of this, students managed to watch live games involving the Miami Marlins, Florida Panthers and, of course, Inter Miami CF, immersing themselves in the over-brimming sports scene Florida boasts. From baseball to American football and Ice Hockey, those that made the trip across the Atlantic were able to experience first-hand the defining sports of the States.

UCFB and GIS are set to host further global summits in Toronto and Atlanta later this year, as we strive to ensure that students say goodbye to UCFB with a profound knowledge of what sport means to different individuals and communities worldwide, and how to capitalise on that from a commercial perspective.
