If you don't have a visa to work in Australia then you may be able to apply for a Working Holiday visa. This visa typically enables you to work for up to 3 years in Australia and only takes a few days to be granted. Please note that this is only currently available to citizens of around 20 countries and there are various eligibility requirements including age. The Working Holiday visa costs $635AUD and you need to show that you have the equivalent of $5,000AUD in your bank account at the time of application. GIS can provide guidance on how to apply for a Working Holiday visa. For the latest information, please visit the Australian government website.
All coaches working with under 18s will need to complete a Working with Children Check, which takes 3-12 weeks to process depending on the state. The costs vary by state but as an example, if you want to work in Victoria then it would be $123.20.
Look for accommodation options that fit your budget. Hostels, shared houses and flat shares are common among working holidaymakers and a great way to meet people. There are short and long term lets as well as student-specific education providers. Popular websites for sourcing accommodation include Gumtree, Flatmates, Domain, Realestate and Hostelworld.
You will need to register with Medicare in order to access healthcare services. Australia has a reciprocal agreement with the UK’s NHS as well as many other countries. This generally covers necessary medical care in and out of public hospitals. However it is important to also ensure you have comprehensive travel insurance to protect yourself and your belongings.
You will need both of these in order to get paid in Australia. You can apply for both online, the bank account via the banks' website and the tax file number via the ATO's website.
