A Global Institute of Sport scholar has been talking to us about how gaining a scholarship will help her along her career within the sports industry.

Siân Hillis has recently started a postgraduate degree with GIS studying MSc Football Coaching and Analysis.

This comes after she graduated from UCFB with an undergraduate degree in BA (Hons) Sports Business and Coaching.

During her three years at UCFB, Siân made the most of gaining industry experience while out of the classroom.

She gained work experience in the coaching industry at Hendon FC, Leigh Ramblers, London Bees, Arsenal and both Essex County and Middlesex football associations.

Keen to continue and progress her knowledge, skills and experience within sports coaching, she was successful in applying for a postgraduate course at the Global Institute of Sport.

During her application process, she also applied for GIS’ Women in Sport Leadership Scholarship, in partnership with the Powerhouse Project.

The scholarship is aimed at the future female leaders of the sports industry.

She was successful in gaining the scholarship, and will be mentored by ex-professional footballers Rosie and Mollie Kmita during her time at GIS.

Siân said: “I feel really privileged to have been awarded the Women in Sport Leadership Scholarship.

“Achieving this Master’s degree will support with my future career ambitions of working in football.”

She added: “My coaching aspiration is to continue working in an elite female environment and continue gaining more experience along the way.”

Rosie and Millie, the co-founders of the Powerhouse Project, say it is their aim ‘to inspire, support and nurture the football industry’s future female leaders.’
