Is sport ever just a game?
Join the Global Institute of Sport for this undergraduate webinar and explore how sport goes far beyond what happens on the pitch.
In this session, we’ll dive into how sport connects with politics, media, and culture – shaping societies and influencing the world around us. You’ll gain insight into how sport has developed into a global business, helped build powerful media industries, and played a role in driving social change.
We’ll also explore key topics you’ll study at undergraduate level, from the historical foundations of sport to modern challenges like inequality, access, and representation.
Hosted by Sam Homewood – Match Day Live and podcast host, broadcast journalist, and lecturer at GIS – you’ll gain real industry insight alongside academic perspective.
A vastly experienced sports reporter, Sam has covered major global events including the UEFA Champions League, FA Cup Final, Wimbledon Championships, and both the Summer and Winter Olympic Games. Still active in the sports media landscape, he is passionate about bringing what’s happening in the industry directly into the classroom.
