GIS Partner Mount Pleasant FA Wins First-Ever CFU Club Shield Trophy

Global Institute of Sport (GIS) is celebrating alongside partner club Mount Pleasant Football Academy after the Jamaican side claimed the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Club Shield for the first time in its history.

Mount Pleasant secured a 1-0 victory over Dominican Republic outfit Delfines del Este FC in the final at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Trinidad and Tobago, with Shaqueil Bradford’s 51st-minute strike proving the difference.

The triumph marks another milestone in the club’s rapid rise, having also lifted the Concacaf Caribbean Cup last year. Mount Pleasant will now look to defend that title when they begin their Caribbean Cup campaign against Cibao FC on 18 August.

Having won the Concacaf Caribbean Cup late last year, the win is a sign of the club’s progression, who are preparing to begin their Caribbean Cup defence against Cibao FC of the Dominican Republic on the 18th of August.

For GIS, the achievement is another proud moment in a partnership that continues to create meaningful opportunities for students to gain experience within an elite football environment.

Through the GIS Live Lab in Jamaica, students have worked closely with Mount Pleasant’s coaching and media departments, supporting the club while applying their academic learning in a professional setting. The initiative provides invaluable hands-on experience, helping prepare the next generation of practitioners for careers across the sports industry.

On the partnership, Mount Pleasant owner Peter Gould said: “The support of GIS students and staff at our GIS Live Lab in Jamaica has been massive in making us the leading Centre of Excellence in the Caribbean.” 

Mount Pleasant’s latest success is a testament to the club’s continued ambition and development, while also highlighting the strength of a partnership built on developing talent both on the pitch and behind the scenes. As the club prepares for another Caribbean campaign, GIS looks forward to continuing its role in supporting one of the region’s leading football organisations.
