The Global Institute of Sport (GIS) is delighted to announce its shortlisting in the Global Graduates category at the upcoming 2026 Independent Higher Education (IHE) Awards.
Another milestone for GIS, the shortlisting recognises our continued commitment as a leader in global sports education, having won the Advancing International Education award at the IHE event last year (pictured above).
Independent Higher Education (IHE) is a not-for-profit national representative body in the UK for independent providers of higher education, professional training and pathways.
Their Global Graduates category, introduced for 2026, recognises IHE members that embed global skills, perspectives and experiences into their UK programmes to prepare graduates for real work environments.

Sharona Friedman, President of GIS, reflected on the shortlisting, commenting: “Being shortlisted for the Global Graduates Award is a fantastic recognition of our commitment to preparing students for an increasingly global sports industry.
“At GIS, we believe education should equip students with the knowledge and international context to pursue opportunities around the world and make a direct impact in their chosen careers after graduating.”
Earlier this year, Sharona was made Chair of IHE, which now has over 90 member organisations. The role sees her engage with governmental, regulatory and sector leaders on behalf of the organisation, which plays a significant role in representing the interests of higher education institutions in championing student development.
The winners of the 2026 IHE Awards will be announced on the evening of Wednesday 18 November, following the IHE Annual Conference at the Royal College of Physicians in London.
