Meet Katie-Leigh Scott.
Recently, she joined Mark Clemmit on a webinar that provided a student’s perspective on our Global Summits. During the session, she shared her experiences and explained how the lessons she learned continue to influence her work today.
Katie-Leigh now works at Manchester City as an Administrative Coordinator for the women’s team.
After graduating with a First-Class degree in Football Business and Finance from UCFB, Katie-Leigh quickly secured her role at Manchester City, recognising the skills she developed during the summits as key to her success.
Katie-Leigh attended GIS summits in Toronto and Miami, where she developed essential skills such as public speaking. During each summit, students are assigned groups and collaborate on projects, which are later presented to a panel of industry leaders.
Reflecting on this, Katie-Leigh shared: “I used to not like public speaking, but I think I just didn’t know enough about it. In most roles in football, you need to be able to speak in front of people.”
She also noted that her experience in Miami became a key talking point during her interview with Manchester City, showcasing the summits as a standout feature for employers.
“I was able to immerse myself in a completely different country and environment. I wanted to push myself outside of my comfort zone and be a part of new sports.”
Having previously worked and volunteered for Burnley FC and UEFA, Katie-Leigh has demonstrated her commitment to advancing her career. The GIS Global Summits provided another avenue for growth are another opportunity for growth, and she encourages other students to take full advantage of their opportunities: “Make the most of your time there. You’ve invested time and money into your career.
“It’s so important because you get out what you put in, and it goes without saying that whenever you can, push yourself and make contacts. Contacts will remember you because you had the confidence to go up to them and introduce yourself.”
She concluded with some advice for students: “Have confidence in what you can bring to the table and remember- everyone’s human. It’s just a normal conversation, and the more you do it the easier it gets.”
