‘GIS offered me my first opportunity in football’: Brentford 1st-Team Training Analyst on GIS Journey

Working with organisations including Arsenal FC, FIFA and, most recently, Brentford FC, Benjamin Chevreau has built his career as an analyst in elite football from the outset.

First-Team Training Analyst at Brentford, Benjamin kicked off his journey with GIS back in 2021, completing his degree in MSc Football Coaching and Analysis, while interning as an Academy Performance Analyst at Leyton Orient.

“I wanted to be at the home of football, in an environment where I had motivated, like-minded people in my course, and” Benjamin began, referring to Wembley Stadium as he told GIS why he chose his particular programme. “It exceeded my expectations.”

“Personally, I’m happy with what the course brought to me. My lecturers were more than helpful. The environment was fantastic, and I felt like I developed every day, and my cohort helped push each other.”

Benjamin’s Intro to the Industry

After graduating, Benjamin secured his first full-time role in football at National League South side Hampton & Richmond FC as Head of Analysis, while also leading the club’s first team recruitment.

Throughout this time, he also worked as a Football Tournament Analyst for FIFA and U21 Performance Analyst for Arsenal Women, building his portfolio across non-league, top flight, and international football. 

This experience helped him land his current role at Brentford, as well as previous internships that he was a part of while studying at GIS.

“GIS offered me my first opportunity in football when I went to London Bees in my first week at the university. This led me to getting another role, and then another role, and since then, I’m now in my current position.” 

Other extracurricular activities that Benjamin took part in included a Global Sports Summit: A cornerstone of many GIS students’ experience.

Looking back on his time in Miami, Benjamin recalled the networking aspect that can make the trip special. “I got to do loads of networking events, which was fantastic. I also met a lot of people in the industry, which only helped me progress.”

Why Work in Sport?

We are also proud to have Benjamin Chevreau as our Alumni Ambassador here at GIS, a role where he believes he can “inspire others to pursue their career goals.” Most of these goals are to have a career in sport, and aiming for this is a decision Benjamin thinks is a good one.

“Why sport? I wanted to be in a fast moving industry. I didn’t want the day to be the same every day. I wanted it to be exciting, and that’s what sport is. So I’m very happy I’m now in this industry. I wouldn’t think of a better industry to be in.”
