Step Into Elite Football Analysis: Dominic Gibson on His Journey with GIS

Currently working as a scout and analyst for Mount Pleasant Academy, Dominic Gibson has combined his passion for football with a drive to develop cutting-edge analytical skills.

His journey reflects a path many aspiring football analysts take, balancing education, hands-on experience, and opportunities to work with elite-level teams.

Dominic chose to pursue the MSc Performance Analysis in Football with GIS because of its strong postgraduate employment rates, career development opportunities, and industry connections.

“GIS provided the opportunity to gain my skills as an analyst, whilst providing ongoing projects to ensure my skills continuously developed throughout my degree. Multiple analysis and scouting projects, combined with learning, have ensured I have the necessary skillset to begin my career within the football industry,” he explained.

A standout moment in Dominic’s studies was building a relationship with Mount Pleasant Academy, which led to the chance to travel to Jamaica twice. His personal highlight came this summer with supporting the Jamaica National Team at the Gold Cup in the USA.

“This was possible due to the analytical skills I have developed on the course, particularly within Hudl platforms,” Dominic said. “Likewise, my data visualisation, academic writing, and overall football knowledge have also increased.”

Since studying with GIS, Dominic has already made a major impact in the field. His role with the Jamaican National Team focused on opposition analysis, particularly set pieces. As the tournament progressed, he expanded his work to create player profiles, including match highlights for former West Ham forward Michail Antonio.

“For me, this was an immense experience, working alongside former England coach Steve McClaren, to deliver analytical insight within an elite environment,” Dominic shared.

Reflecting on his time with GIS, Dominic says:

“My experience has been incredible. I have been able to develop elite-level analysis skills and work with top professionals, all whilst getting a master’s degree.”

Looking ahead, Dominic is focused on securing a full-time analysis role within a professional club in England. He emphasises the importance of continuous development and seizing every opportunity.

“I am still taking every opportunity that comes my way, and for future students, I could not emphasise this enough,” he added.
