In the last few years, countless Global Institute of Sport students have enjoyed our signature Global Summits, and we’re back again to announce our exciting schedule for the upcoming 2024/25 academic year!

From semester one, bookings will be made available to all GIS students and alumni, who can look forward to our exciting summits, which we base on four themes:

  • From the pitch – hear from those who contribute towards the playing side of sport such as coaches, match analysts and sports scientists;
  • From the industry – find out more from those who are responsible for what happens behind the scenes, including marketing managers, agents and media officers;
  • From the boardroom – learn about how the big decisions are taken at clubs and organisations from the likes of chief executives and chief finance officers;
  • Cultural activities – this will include visits to national landmarks, leading sporting venues and at least one live sports fixture (subject to fixture lists).

Labelled an, “eye opening experience, delivered by the best in the industry” by BA (Hons) Football Business & Marketing graduate, Henry Davies, these summits simply cannot be missed.

At all of our summits, students can rest assured they will jump right into the action whichever summit you choose. One of the jam-packed days could see you hearing from multiple guest-speakers delivering inspiring and insightful talks, followed by networking events with industry leaders- a fantastic opportunity to learn from the best and develop those all-important connections for your career in sport.

Another day could see both of those things followed by stadium and venue tours at world-class facilities, with exclusive behind-the-scenes access giving you an experience you cannot get elsewhere.

But what’s a Global Summit without live sport? Well we’ve got you covered here too. Students can look forward to seeing elite athletes do what they do best across a number of sports.

Also provided are social events designed to help you get to know your fellow GIS students and opportunities to explore the area, letting you get acquainted with a new city or explore one  you’ve visited before.

The summits start off with a bang, with the first being hosted in Melbourne. The city is one of the world’s most special sporting cities, with the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) the venue of some iconic moments. Students attending will be heading down under in January for the first of our summits spread across four countries.

The next is set to be held in April in Miami. Held at Chase Stadium, home to David Beckham’s Inter Miami CF (and not to mention Lionel Messi), students will see more of the world-class facilities and industry-leading speakers that our summits have on display.

One month later and we go again, this time in Toronto! In June, you can attend our summit held primarily at BMO Field, home of 2017 MLS champions, Toronto FC. At each summit, you can expect a mix of different live-sports, speakers and venues leading to a whole new experience, and Toronto is no different, where students will be able to learn from owner MLSE's unique business that runs successful multi-sport franchise operations, branching into the MLS, NBA and NHL.

Heading back to England, GIS’ Global Summits will come to the home of football at Wembley Stadium, London. Students and alumni will again learn more about the industry during the visit, and where better to do so than Wembley Stadium.

Covering three continents, our Global Summits are set up to give you both a varied look into how the sports industry is run, whilst also providing detailed insight by those who know it best.
