Wednesday 14th May marked a significant milestone at Wembley Stadium as GIS hosted the much-anticipated launch of its newly established Women in Sport Society – GIS Spark ✨ (Supporting Progress, Advocacy, Representation and Knowledge).
The Vision: To build an inclusive, supportive network within our university and beyond, empowering women in sport through mentorship, leadership opportunities, and industry connections – ensuring that every woman at GIS has the resources and support to thrive.
It was fitting to have the formidable Carrie Dunn as our first ever guest speaker. A renowned writer, researcher, and expert in women’s sport, Dunn has spent her career uncovering and celebrating the untold stories of trailblazing women. Attendees had the privilege of an exclusive preview of her latest book, Flying the Flag, and witnessed the moment she received her first physical copy, adding a memorable touch to the occasion.
A massive thank you to the GIS team, society members, and partners at The Powerhouse Project whose unwavering dedication and support ensured the success of the event. An extended welcome and much gratitude to our friends and guests of Spark, whose energy and excitement on the day was palpable.
The launch of GIS Spark underscores the transformative experience offered by the Global Institute of Sport, setting it apart from traditional educational institutions and instilling a game-changing spirit in all involved. With momentum building, GIS Spark promises to be a beacon of progress for women in sport-driving positive change, fostering connections and shaping the future of the industry.
This is just the start, and we look forward to hosting more events, initiatives, and growing our community!
