The Global Institute of Sport is delighted to share that our partner, Mount Pleasant Football Academy, has qualified for the 2027 CONCACAF Champions Cup, the confederation’s top intercontinental tournament.
The club achieved this via the regional CONCACAF Caribbean Cup, beating Trinidad and Tobago’s Club Sando 3-1 on aggregate in the semi-final.
After a 1-1 draw in the Port of Spain, Mount Pleasant won the second leg 2-0 in Kingston. A missed penalty in the 36th minute galvanised the Mount Pleasant side, with Warner Brown opening the scoring with a thunderous strike from the edge of the box early in the second half.
The team limited Club Sando’s chances for the rest of the game before eventually capitalising on a defensive mistake in the opposition midfield to secure the 2-0 win in added time.
The win marks the second successive year Mount Pleasant has reached the final of the Caribbean Cup, having lifted the trophy for the first time in club history in December 2025.
This qualified them for their historic first appearance in the prestigious Champions Cup earlier this year, which saw them face MLS-giant LA Galaxy and featured appearances from the likes of Marco Reus and former Japan captain Maya Yoshida.

Mount Pleasant is proudly supported by GIS, with both organisations sharing a commitment to excellence and developing talent.
A long-term partner, the GIS logo can be found as the club’s front-of-shirt sponsor, though the relationship runs far deeper. GIS students share in the connection through Live Lab Opportunities – internship programmes that see them gain hands-on experience with Mount Pleasant’s media and coaching teams, working both remotely and on the ground in Jamaica.
Supporting the club’s operations on and off the pitch, Mount Pleasant owner Peter Gould spoke about the partnership, and said: “Launching the Live Lab with GIS and bringing in their cutting-edge expertise to Mount Pleasant Football Academy will be a major boost in achieving further national and international success for us and our players. This partnership will help cement our position as the top destination for developing young talent in the Caribbean.”
James Pugh, a GIS Performance Analysis in Football student who has supported Mount Pleasant with analytical work, agreed, adding: “It’s definitely given me more of a desire to work within the football industry. I feel like we made an impact.”

Mount Pleasant will face the winner of the other semi-final between Portmore United and Violette AC in the Caribbean Cup Final in December. While both qualify for the Champions Cup, the winner will directly qualify for the Round of 16.
The draw for the 2027 CONCACAF Champions Cup will likely take place in December, and will feature top clubs from Major League Soccer and Liga MX.
All games will be streamed in the US on Paramount+ once the tournament begins next February.
