Global Institute of Sport (GIS) student Dominic Gibson is currently supporting the Jamaica national team at the 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup tournament in the United States.
Dominic, an MSc Performance Analysis in Football student, is working closely with the team throughout the competition.
After meeting Steve McClaren during the JFF Premier League Final in Jamaica, the former England manager was impressed by the work GIS was doing with Mount Pleasant Football Academy. He encouraged the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) to involve GIS in the national team’s Gold Cup preparations. That collaboration is now underway as the tournament progresses.
“I’m currently with the Jamaican National Team in the USA for their Gold Cup tournament. I’m here conducting pre, live and post-match analysis on Jamaica’s gameplay as well as our upcoming opposition,” said Dominic.
“This involves presenting relevant footage to coaches based on their requirements and sharing the information with the players. We film each match to provide live, in-time information to the coaching staff on the bench, as well as during training sessions.
I’ve learned an incredible amount since being with the team. I’ve developed my analytical and tactical skills within football, I’ve developed my software skills in Sportscode and Studio, all whilst working in an intense elite environment. Working with leading professionals off the pitch has truly helped me in all aspects of my analysis approach.
The level of focus within the squad is something I’ve never experienced before and is super intense, but I’m now settled and I’m thoroughly enjoying the journey.”
Dominic’s role demonstrates GIS’s ongoing involvement in supporting football teams at the elite level. As Jamaica competes on the international stage, he is gaining valuable experience while contributing to their Gold Cup campaign.
