The Global Institute of Sport (GIS) has partnered with the World Football Summit (WFS) to offer two exclusive scholarship and internship opportunities to new and existing GIS students.
The opportunities will provide successful applicants with the chance to gain practical experience within the global football industry, while developing their professional networks and building a deeper understanding of the organisations and commercial relationships shaping the future of the sport.
Founded in 2016, the World Football Summit is a global platform connecting leaders across the football industry through international events, market insights and year-round initiatives. To date, WFS has hosted 32 events across 11 countries, welcoming more than 44,600 attendees and building a network of more than 153,000 football industry professionals.
WFS stages have featured some of football’s biggest names, including FIFA President Gianni Infantino, Ronaldo Nazário, Rio Ferdinand, Didier Drogba and Javier Tebas. In 2025 alone, WFS Madrid welcomed 2,500+ attendees and 120 speakers, while WFS Riyadh brought together 2,500+ professionals and 150+ speakers from 83 countries.
The Global Institute of Sport (GIS) is the leading destination for degrees and executive education in the world’s most exciting sector. Driving the fast-paced world of sport, GIS is powered by a global network of industry leaders and elite stadium venues.
GIS is ranked number one globally for Career Advancement, Industry Network and Quality of Faculty among sports business programmes.
79% of GIS graduates are working in sport within six months, while 99% secure employment within six months.
With more than 50 sports industry partners, including the Premier League and The FA, plus a global network of mentors, executives and guest speakers, GIS gives students access to the people and organisations shaping the future of sport.

Through the partnership, students will be able to apply for one of two internship profiles, offering exposure to different areas of WFS’s work.
The Partnership Executive Intern opportunity will focus on commercial and partnership development. The successful student will support WFS’s commercial activities, gaining insight into how partnerships are developed and managed within the global football industry.
The Club, League & Federation Relations Intern opportunity will focus on football property and stakeholder relations. The role will provide experience supporting WFS’s relationships with football properties, including clubs, leagues, federations and institutional stakeholders.
Both opportunities are designed to complement students’ academic studies with practical experience in an international football business environment.
The placement structure will vary depending on whether students are studying full-time or part-time.
Full-time students will have the opportunity to undertake a six-month internship or placement, tailored to their profile, availability and the requirements of WFS.
Part-time students will have the opportunity to complete two six-month placements, providing exposure to different areas of WFS’s business while allowing them to continue their studies.
Placements may be completed remotely or in person at WFS headquarters in Madrid, depending on the student’s profile, availability and WFS’s requirements.
Applications opened on 18 August and are open to both new and existing GIS students, with applications closing on 14 September 2026.
The partnership provides GIS students with the opportunity to combine their studies with hands-on industry experience, international exposure and professional networking within the global football ecosystem.
For aspiring sports industry professionals, the placements offer the chance to develop practical skills and gain first-hand experience of the commercial and stakeholder relationships that underpin the modern football industry.
Applications close on 14 September 2026.
