Global Institute of Sport (GIS) students played a key behind-the-scenes role at Chase Stadium on 6 December 2025, supporting matchday operations as Inter Miami defeated the Vancouver Whitecaps 3–1 to lift the MLS Cup.
The final featured a Vancouver own goal, strikes from Rodrigo De Paul and Tadeo Allende, with Lionel Messi providing two assists in a confident performance in front of a packed stadium.
Throughout the event, several GIS students gained invaluable hands-on experience, contributing to essential matchday duties such as coordinating pre-match field presentations, managing live timing, and supporting on-field positioning.

GIS student Cornelius Strehl shared his perspective:
“I assisted with pre-match field presentation elements and followed live timing and positioning instructions, helping ensure everything ran smoothly on the field. After two intensive four-hour rehearsals in the days leading up to the match, it was incredibly rewarding to see all the preparation come together on game day.”
He added:
“Volunteering at the biggest club football event in the United States was an unforgettable experience that reinforced my passion for sports, events, and teamwork.”

The experience gave students a front-row look at elite sporting operations, from coordinating complex pre-match presentations to working alongside professionals in a high-pressure environment.
This opportunity highlights GIS’s commitment to providing students with real-world, industry-ready experiences, giving them a unique perspective on the teamwork, planning, and precision required to deliver top-level sporting events.
