Ever wanted to hear from industry leaders about the behind-the-scenes of the sporting world?

At GIS, this knowledge is what we strive to provide for our students, so we’re thrilled to announce the Global Institute of Sport Insight Series, which will run throughout the academic year.

Hosted by the BBC’s Mark Clemmit and Sky SportsLynsey Hooper, the sessions will explore the ever-evolving global sports industry, led by experts in their respective fields.

Open to all GIS students, the sessions are a great opportunity to gain some of the knowledge you’ll need throughout your studies and careers, and we’re proud to have confirmed some fantastic guest speakers.

Our first session on 24th October will delve into Global Perspectives on the developing sporting world. Exploring key international trends, opportunities, and challenges, our hosts will be joined by CONCACAF’s Director of Development, Jason Roberts, and Essence Mediacom’s Global Head of Sport, Entertainment and Culture, Misha Sher, to discuss how different regions are shaping the future of the industry and what this means for the global sports ecosystem.

Our next session will be held on 31st October, where Jason Brisbane, CEO at Great Britain Wheelchair Rugby, will examine the importance of inclusivity and accessibility in sports. With a focus on the challenges faced by athletes with disabilities, you’ll learn how organisations and initiatives are driving change, and ensuring that sport is accessible to all.

Following this, another fantastic session is scheduled for 28th November. Diving into the dynamic world of sports entrepreneurship is Thomas Freismuth, CEO of GROW sports agency, which operates across three continents. Thomas is also an International Football Business graduate. Fellow graduate Edem Spio will also feature in the sports entrepreneuship session having gone on to co-found the Africa Sport Business Group and host the Africa Business of Sport Podcast. In this session, you’ll discover the strategies and experiences of successful entrepreneurs who are shaping the future of sports business.

To round off the year, we will be joined by Football Industry Lead at Google Cloud, Jack Green, at our Tech Innovation Summit in December. One of the many growing sectors in the sports industry, the UK has the most Sports Tech start-ups in Europe, and this session will equip you with expertise needed to tackle a sector that is becoming increasingly important in world football.

The action will continue in 2025, where we’ll see even more events in our Insight Series from a wide range of special guests.

During Orientation Week and throughout the rest of the academic year, all GIS students will receive a registration link to attend any of these sessions.
