Step into the exciting world of sports management with the MS Sports Administration, offered in partnership with St. Thomas University in Miami. This unique course provides students the opportunity to study at the home of Inter Miami, Chase Stadium, immersing them in a dynamic soccer stadium environment. Students will also undertake half of their modules on campus at St. Thomas University in Miami Gardens.

Course Content

Graduates will gain critical insight into high-level leadership and operational success, learning to interpret financial data, appraise club KPIs, and build strategies for managing organisations and talent effectively. Whether you dream of running a major sports team or leading innovative football enterprises, this degree provides the strategic acumen and practical skills needed to succeed in the competitive world of sports management.

 

For those aspiring to lead in international football, the programme’s Global Fútbol Management Specialisation offers a unique edge. You will explore commercial operations and project management within a football context, understand the financial mechanisms essential for club success, and learn how to manage match day revenues, broadcasting rights, and financial regulations. Additionally, students will delve into governance frameworks and data analytics to master consumer behaviours and fan engagement strategies across global markets.

Teaching Location

This degree is available at our campus in Miami, USA. Located at the home of Inter Miami CF, Chase Stadium, you will be fully immersed in the surroundings of the MLS giants.

This is an introductory course on research design emphasising computer skills, analysis and presentation of information. It is intended to make the student an informed consumer of research. Must be taken in the first or second term of enrollment.

This course will examine ethics within the context of a sport management environment, utilising theory and case application. Human resource principles and concepts will be infused in assignments and discussions to add depth and breadth to the consideration of ethical implications specific to sport managers. The course will address criteria specific to moral and ethical developmental theories, teleological and deontological theories of ethics and code of professional ethics.

This course is required for the Sports Administration graduate programme degrees. It covers pertinent areas of overall management, leadership styles, decision-making, communication, philosophical and ethical conduct, and time and stress management. Timely topics of interest to the class are also researched and discussed. The course also provides students with opportunities to identify areas for potential internships and develop job/internship seeking skills. Guest speakers are frequently invited to class to share their experiences as practitioners in the field of sports administration.

 

This required course provides the student with a background and understanding of the court and legal system in America and how law is used by, and applied to, athletes and athletics in America. Some of the major legal problems and issues confronting the sports administrator covered are: contracts, due process, defamation, actions against professional, college, secondary school and community programs; actions involving safety procedures; antitrust; collective bargaining and arbitration; and risk management.

Those students who have demonstrated ability and commitment to their major through active volunteer participation and adequate grade point average are encouraged and assisted in arranging internships with professional, college, and school programmes; public and private recreational programs; sports facilities, or other sports related organisations. This experience provides a practical learning mode for the graduate student in which to acquire skills and practice in their area of study. Credit hours are directly related to the length of the internship and the work week. Internship is Pass/Fail only and requires the advanced approval of the Programme Office.

This course aims to support strategic leaders in football and explore the features of leading high-performing organisations or professional football clubs. The course will focus on the key skills required to run a successful organisation or football club, developing culture, and talent management. The module will draw on both examples from football and the broader world of sport, to overcome strategic challenges of high performing teams and organisations.

This course explores the importance, variation and motivation that influence football consumer behaviors. You will identify key factors which explore the changing nature of football consumer typologies, including the globalisation of fan engagement and the importance of customer relationship management and data analytics. This course unit explores and analyses the dynamic nature of football fan engagement and the online and offline tools being used to capture existing and new fans. Finally, the course unit examines the current trends and issues in football fan engagement.

This course introduces the importance of finance as a discipline and decision tool for professional football clubs. The course addresses USA, European, and Global football landscape, and the importance of match day, broadcast and commercial revenue, through financial regulation, cost management and all aspects of revenue generation. There will be a strong focus on interpreting and monitoring financial outcomes and appraising club financial data, KPI’s and valuations.

This course explores the impact, vision and activities of commercial operations and project management in a football context with emphasis on developing insight and understanding of approaches for managing football operations to achieve successful delivery. The course provides opportunities to comprehend and apply alternative academic and best practice perspectives in terms of operational outcomes with a project management perspective.

The course develops insights, leadership, and other skills required to work in the global futbol industry. Students will be exposed to a range of successful sports leaders from our global network of partners and academics, contributing to live case studies during the GIS global summits. Students will have the opportunity to attend the summit in Miami or in the UK or Australia. The global summits aim to promote critical reflection and self-awareness of students’ capabilities, self-knowledge, and skills required to succeed in the global sports industry. The course allows students to take responsibility for their own personal development and effectiveness through the development of a professional skills audit and training plan.

Entry Requirements

Admission to the programme requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, with the following required coursework or equivalents:

  • A completed and signed university Application for Admission
  • Official college and/or university baccalaureate transcripts from the institution where the degree was conferred
  • An undergraduate degree with a GPA of 2.75 or higher
