GIS Welcomes Students to New Sydney Campus

GIS Welcomes Students to New Sydney Campus

After a busy opening week, GIS would like to welcome our 2026 student intake to our new Sydney campus, where teaching is now underway.

At the campus, students can choose to study on multiple courses. These include the Master of International Sports Business and Master of Sports Analytics, while we also offer a Combined Master of both of these for students who want to take a more holistic approach to their learning.

Classes are split across the Allianz Stadium, Sydney Cricket Ground and the University of Newcastle’s Sydney Campus, getting exclusive access to some of the country’s most advanced sporting and educational venues.

While classes have started, students on their very first day heard from four leaders of the local sports industry, namely:

  • Courtney Pascoe, Competitions and Officials Manager – Powerlifting at Paralympics Australia
  • Matt Pound, General Manager – Commercial and Marketing at Sydney FC
  • Thomas Beauchamp, Commercial Partnerships Executive at Venues NSW
  • Jess Bridger, Account Manager – Premium & Iconic Experiences at Venues NS

This all comes directly after our GIS Global Sports Summit Australia, where students spent time in two of the biggest sporting cities in the world: Sydney and Melbourne.

Industry-leading guest speakers from La Liga to the Rugby World Cup networked with our students, and we spoke to GIS President Sharona Friedman about just how ingrained sport is into the city.

“Sydney places sport right at its heart. We’re in the Allianz Stadium, linked to the SCG next door. In these two stadiums alone, there’s AFL, rugby league, rugby union, football, cricket—Aussies are learning how to kick a ball before they learn to walk. People are on surfboards, they’re swimming…Sydney is undoubtedly one of the best sporting cities in the world.”

This is particularly true for our students, who will have the chance to discover what the city has on offer during their time with GIS. Having lived in Sydney as a student, Sharona added: “I never wanted to leave!

“It’s a phenomenal place to live, especially as a sporty person, but there’s also fantastic culture, museums, beaches, food—it’s such an international city and a great opportunity to meet people from all around the world.”

If you’re a student wondering where to begin in Sydney, read our students guide to the city, or to discover more about our courses on offer, view our programme offerings.
