Many stars of the English Premier League have gone to the other side of the world at some point in their career to make a name for themselves in the A-League.

Some players currently play soccer down under, including Morgan Schneiderlin, Nani and Adam le Fondre.

As Australia continues to look more and more attractive to Premier League stars, we’re looking at five players who have gone and played on both sides of the globe.

  • Dwight Yorke

Trinidadian and Tobagonian legend Dwight Yorke made a name for himself at Aston Villa before shooting to absolute stardom at Manchester United, striking a partnership with Andy Cole and being a vital part of the treble-winning squad.

He signed for Sydney FC in 2005, and played a crucial role in guiding them to the inaugural A-League Grand Final, which they won 1-0. Yorke became a star name for the league, and a fan favourite in Sydney.

His time down under was riddled with injuries, but he still made 14 appearances in the 2007-08 year before announcing his retirement from soccer.

The former Liverpool, Leeds United and Manchester City man played for two clubs out in Australia: North Queensland Fury and Perth Glory.

He scored 18 goals in two seasons at the two clubs, finishing as Perth Glory’s top scorer during the year he was with them. That was the last club he played for aside from Thai side Muangthong United.

  • Emile Heskey

Heskey was an established Premier League name, spending 17 years in England’s top flight before going to Newcastle Jets in 2012.

He was named the club’s Player of the Year in his debut season, before scoring nine goals in his second prior to moving back to his homeland.
