What’s Coming Up at GIS? Industry Speakers, Global Summits, and More

As the new academic year begins, it’s an exciting time to be a student at the Global Institute of Sport.

Alongside premium online learning, we’re bringing students industry-leading guest speakers, events designed to help expand your network, and, of course, internship opportunities.

Our signature Global Sports Summits are back and better than ever, and it’s upcoming events like these that we’re excited to share with you.

What’s Been Going On Recently?

In the last few weeks, we’ve welcomed a new cohort to our London campus, where students spent the day at the iconic Wembley Stadium getting to know each other and GIS staff.

After some networking games, students got a taste of the industry access they can expect at GIS, hearing from Mark Bullingham, the CEO of The FA, as part of a guest speaker session hosted by experienced reporter, Mark Clemmit.

Including Jo Tongue MBE and Asha Philip OLY, more guest speakers followed, while a few days earlier, we launched the MBA Sports Management at our Toronto campus. 

Before an evening spent watching Toronto FC beat Nashville SC in MLS, students accessed exclusive areas of BMO Field and heard from six industry speakers as part of what one student described the “best first day of school ever!”

But it’s not just at these locations that students can get in on the action. Academy Operations Manager & PDP Operations Lead at Brentford FC Liam MacLean spoke to students about his role in an online webinar, while Head of Player Services (Men’s First Team) at Liverpool FC Luke Cheyne also delivered a session.

Elsewhere, students were able to apply their knowledge through internships with some of GIS’ global partners, including at the World Football Summit, The Sporting News, and the Vertex Cup.

What’s Coming Up Soon?

If you’re thinking about joining GIS, or already have, there’s plenty more coming up for you.

In Miami, students can expect to hear from the likes of James Slusser and Ana de Souza about everything from finance to media, while online, Harley Redlick and James Rosengarten, Melbourne Renegades General Manager, will share details about their experience in the sports industry.

Exclusive industry access continues over in Sydney, where masterclasses and open evenings at the Allianz Stadium will give students insight into the local sports scene and, of course, an extra chance to expand that all-important network. 

GIS Global Sports Summits also return in 2027, where GIS students from all around the world come together for the learning experience of a lifetime.

More industry speakers, access to world class sporting venues and close-knit, relaxed networking events can be expected, with the following dates now available for booking:

    —  Miami: Early April (Dates TBC)

    —  London: 20th May – 27th May (Dates TBC)

    —  Toronto: 7th June –-14th June
